Introduction

At Desserts to Door, we understand that privacy is important to our users. This Privacy Policy describes how we collect, use, and share information through our website, applications, and services. By using Desserts to Door, you agree to our collection, use, and sharing of your information as described in this Privacy Policy.

How We Use Your Information
  • Processing orders: We use your personal and payment information to process your orders and deliver your desserts.
  • Personalising the experience: We use your location and usage information to personalise the content and recommendations we show you.
  • Improving our services: We use device and usage data to understand how people use our platform and identify areas for improvement.
  • Communicating with you: We use your contact information to send order updates, promotional offers, and other relevant information.
Data We Hold About You

1. Information supplied directly by you

  • Registration Data: Username and email provided when you create an account.
  • Profile Information: Mobile phone number and delivery address added to your profile. You can view and edit this at any time.
  • Date of Birth: Optional. If you share it, we use it to send you something on your birthday, and your age range helps us decide which offers to show you. It is never shared with vendors, and you can leave it blank.
  • Gender: Optional. Used only to help us choose which offers and messages to show you. You can select “Prefer not to say”, and it is never shared with vendors.
  • Payment Information: Payment data is processed by our electronic payment service providers. Desserts to Door does not store card details.
  • Additional Information: Any other information you supply, such as a photograph or billing address for invoices.
  • Support Communications: Information you provide when resolving queries or complaints via contact form, email, or phone.
  • Incident Information: Details provided by parties involved in service incidents for insurance or safety purposes.
  • Conversation Records: Transcripts and recordings of support conversations to guarantee service quality and security.

2. Information indirectly collected

  • Usage Data: Data generated each time you interact with the platform.
  • Device & App Data: IP address, browser type, OS, device type, clickstream, and browsing preferences.
  • Referral Data: If you arrive via an external link or social network, we collect data on your origin source.
  • Incident Management Data: Messages received via contact form, chat, or phone used to manage current and future incidents.
  • Cookie Data: First- and third-party cookies used to improve browsing and for analytics.
  • Geolocation Data: The location of your device. The next section explains this in full, including when it is collected in the background.
Location Data, Including Background Collection

We collect location data for one purpose, which is to get your order to you and to let you see it on its way. How we collect it depends on whether you are a customer or a rider.

If you are a customer

We use your device location to find shops near you and to help you set your delivery address. This happens only while you are using the app. We do not collect your location when the customer app is closed or in the background.

If you are a rider

When you accept a delivery, we collect your precise location and share it with the customer and the shop for that delivery, so they can see the order on its way, and so the app knows when you have arrived.

This continues while the app is closed or your screen is locked, because you cannot hold your phone while riding.

Background collection starts when you accept a delivery and stops when you have delivered it. While you are online and waiting for work, we also update your position about once a minute so we can offer you jobs nearby. Collection stops as soon as you go offline.

You agree before any of this starts. The rider app explains background collection on screen before it asks for the location permission. If you decline, you can still use the rest of the app, but you will not be able to go online and take deliveries. You can withdraw the permission at any time in your phone settings, or simply by going offline.

We never sell location data. We do not share it with advertisers, and we do not share a rider's location with anyone other than the customer and the shop on that rider's current delivery.

Data from External Third Parties

Data may be shared with:

  • The rider responsible for collecting and delivering your order
  • The vendor or shop fulfilling your order
  • Customer care services contracted by Desserts to Door
  • Payment platforms and payment service providers
  • Telecommunications providers for order or incident communications
  • Satisfaction survey service providers acting on our behalf

We share only what each of these needs to do its job. A rider sees the delivery address and a contact number for the order they are carrying, and nothing else about you. A shop sees what you ordered. Neither sees your date of birth or your gender.

Data Protection

Desserts to Door adopts the necessary technical and organisational measures to ensure the security of user data and to prevent alteration, loss, unauthorised access, or processing, in line with the current state of technology and the nature of the data stored.

We guarantee the confidentiality of the data provided by users under our internal confidentiality and security policies. We will not disclose personal data to any third party without your prior consent.

How Long We Keep Your Data

We keep data only as long as we need it for the purpose it was collected for, or as long as the law requires.

  • Account details: For as long as your account is open. If you delete your account we remove them within 30 days.
  • Order records: For six years after the order, because Ghanaian tax and accounting law requires us to keep business records. These are kept even if you close your account, and we do not use them to contact you.
  • Rider location from a delivery: For 90 days after the delivery, so that we can settle any dispute about it and to support rider safety. After that it is deleted.
  • A rider's live position while online: Kept only while the rider is online. It is not retained as a location history.
  • Support messages and call recordings: For 12 months, so we can follow up on a complaint.
  • Cookies and analytics: For up to 12 months. You can clear cookies in your browser at any time.
Deleting Your Account and Your Data

You can delete your account yourself, and you do not need to contact us to do it.

  • In the customer app: Profile, then Delete account.
  • In the rider app: Menu, then Delete account.
  • On the web: Use the account deletion page linked below. You do not need to install the app.

What is removed: your name, email address, phone number, saved addresses, date of birth, gender, profile photo, any saved payment details held for you by our payment provider, and any location data still inside its retention period.

What is kept: the financial record of orders you have already placed, for six years, because the law requires it. Those records are separated from your profile and are not used to identify or contact you.

Deletion is completed within 30 days. It cannot be undone, and we cannot restore an account afterwards.

Request account deletion
Your Rights

You have the right to:

  • Access your data: Request access to see what information we hold and how we process it.
  • Rectification: Request correction of inaccurate or outdated personal data.
  • Deletion: Request deletion of your data when it is no longer necessary for the purposes collected.
  • Restriction: Request restricted processing of your data when conditions in data protection law are met.
  • Portability: Receive your data in a structured, machine-readable format.
  • Objection: Object to the processing of your data for reasons related to your particular situation.
  • Withdraw consent: Where we rely on your consent, you can withdraw it at any time. Turning off a location permission in your phone settings, or going offline as a rider, withdraws your consent for location collection. Withdrawing consent does not affect anything we did before you withdrew it.

To exercise any of these rights, email support@dessertstodoor.com. We respond within 30 days.

If you are not satisfied with how we have handled your data, you can complain to Ghana's Data Protection Commission.

Children

Desserts to Door is not intended for children. You must be 18 or older to create an account, place an order, or ride for us.

We do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under 18. If you believe a child has given us their information, email support@dessertstodoor.com and we will delete it.
